About:

Coach KatieWhidden  is a former division one collegiate athlete who has always made an effort to get those around her moving. Katie’s passion for coaching was fostered in high school where she would mentor younger athletes in the weight room. To take her coaching and training to the next level, Katie acquired the highly regarded CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) certification along with USA Cycling Level 2 and USAT Level 1 coaching certification. She is also a Training Peaks certified coach, having completed their Training Peaks University program.

Education alone does not make a great coach; Katie’s ability to adapt and understand an athlete’s needs is what sets her apart from others in the profession. She takes great pride in creating fun and challenging workouts for athletes of all levels. Katie looks at every workout as another opportunity to teach athletes about their body and to help guide them towards their full potential. She joined the profession because she loves to see the transformation that can occur in an athlete’s self-confidence when they have a goal and set out to achieve it.

Katie has been coaching in the Denver/Boulder/Golden area since 2014, in roles such as group fitness instructor, personal trainer, endurance coach, youth running coach and youth mountain biking coach. Organizations she has supported include Peak Performance Running & Golden Bike Experience (GBX).

Coaching Mentality:

Coach Katie believes that to improve in any sport the training has to be consistent, specific and should be complimented by strength training. Early in her coaching career she learned the importance of building a big base and including recovery periods for athletes in their annual training plans. She puts together carefully thought out plans that optimize the training time that an athlete has and that is in balance with the athlete’s commitments outside of training.

Accomplishments: 

Katie has multiple overall female wins in triathlon and consistently makes the podium weekend after weekend in local cycling races alongside her teammates with the Colorado Women’s cycling project.
